Meet Jack the Dog! A small dog with a big life!
I adopted Jack from the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago in 2004. I’d bought my first home (a condo in Chicago) and knew that I needed a buddy to inhabit the place with me. So, I went to the shelter and there he was, waiting for me!

Jack meeting Chloe at the Denver Dumb Friends League of Castle Rock

Even though she was bigger, Jack would not let Chloe into his space (the bedroom)!

Jack was NOT happy when the luggage came out; he knew what that meant!

Jack the Mighty!

Once Jack saw Chloe using the doggie door, he suddenly had an idea of his own!

Jack was determined to get in and out of the house on his own...so we built him a ramp!

A Day in the Life of Jack the Dog!
This is a VERY old tech version of an iMovie I made in 2013 (!) but it’s still a great way to get to know Jack!
In 2005 when Jack was paralyzed…
I didn’t even own a cell phone! And when I eventually got one, I had a flip phone for years! 🤪🙃👏🏼 All of that to say why I have very little photos or videos of Jack. This one that I dug out of the archives was recorded at the Denver Dumb Friends League of Castle Rock when Jack was meeting his new sister, Chloe. Jack was a very loving dog….towards me…with other humans or animals, he was much more cautious and well, unpleasant. The fact that Jack let Chloe sniff around before he tried to wheel away was the green light necessary for Chloe to become part of our family!
Chloe proved to be the best possible sibling for Jack. She was fun, energetic and deferred to Jack as the alpha. She even taught Jack a thing or two…like how to use a doggie door (true story!) , protected Jack at the dog park (see the above video) and gave Jack a hiking partner!
